Personal information
Personality:Unlike the norms of a typical outgoing person, Hui Yi is the complete opposite. At first glance, Hui Yi may seem like the typical student wandering in the campus’ premises. He prefers being on his own, having himself to depend on. He didn’t like the idea of making new acquaintances, unless it is for school or work. Hui Yi is a closed off person and would rarely share about his life, even to people who are close to him. He likes to keep things to himself as he thinks it would be troublesome to have people to know of his life and preferences. Although said, Hui Yi can be flirty at times, although seeing him that way is very rare, yet he prefers to not be committed to any relationship. The idea of being committed to one person could be a little intimidating for the man named Hui Yi, since he would rather not be in one. He puts his grandmother first before anyone else, therefore he focuses on her happiness more than other people, if that means cancelling his own personal plans for her.
Alignment:Lawful Good
Strength(s):Hui Yi is very detail-oriented, attentive to his surroundings. Due to his nature of being an artist, he carefully pays attention to details. It became a habit for him to take self notes of the person he was talking to, although sometimes he questions himself why. He is also very creative in the artistic aspect, which made him eligible to work as a tattoo artist.
Weakness(s):One of Hui Yi's weaknesses includes not being able to hold a conversation long. He is a quiet person in general and only says the things that he finds important in a conversation. He doesn’t say more or be the first to move to another topic. If the conversation dries out or becomes awkward, Hui Yi will be the first to excuse himself. Apart from that, talking about his insecurities is also one of his weaknesses. He would try to avoid talking about it and again, he would excuse himself from the conversation to avoid it being continued.
Habits:Hui Yi tends to pick on his nails out of conscience when he’s dazed or simply daydreaming. He does it too when he’s feeling a little nervous, although being nervous was an uncommon occurrence for him. Due to this habit of his, one would visibly see the redness and torn skin around his fingertips.
Interests:Hui Yi is a man of a few interest, one of them being crime and mystery related things such as documentaries, books or audiobooks. He also takes an interest in photography, especially fashion or commercial photography and is still debating if he should choose that as his future long-time career or stick to tattooing.
Fear(s):Ever since he was young, Hui Yi has always been afraid of the dark. He never liked being in the dark, especially in tight spaces and alone. He wouldn’t try to make it obvious that he is afraid of the dark, but some slight movements from him such as shivering, and him closing his eyes as he avoids looking into the dark space is enough for a person to catch that he is afraid. His fear of losing his grandmother exceeds all. Hui Yi is emotionally very close to his grandmother who has been taking care of him since he was still a child. He had grown attached to his grandmother, a figure that replaces both his parents. He knew that one day he would have to leave his ageing grandmother but he wishes that the day would not arrive.
Good traits:A few of his good traits are being generous and showing kindness. He loves volunteering himself to do charity works for the orphanage, hospitals or the old people’s home as he used to visit those places with his grandmother when he was younger. Over time, he was accustomed to going to those places to help out or sometimes to simply enjoy being in their presence. He especially loves being around children who would play with him during his free time after he was done with his part. He loves hearing their stories and was grateful how they were accepting of their peers. He is also tolerant towards other people, and since he is used to being surrounded with lots of people, he grew to accept the characters and opinions of some.
Bad traits:Although Hui Yi is not much of a social person, he is quite possessive to those he had grown to be attached with. He didn’t really like that sometimes he acted this way and would keep his feelings all bottled up to himself. He would find ways to distract himself from the possessiveness he’s experiencing, such as occupying himself with his books or drawings. He also has a tendency to keep things to himself and rather suffer alone.
Talent(s):As a student majoring in digital arts, Hui Yi has grown to have a talent for art in general. He enjoys doodling and scribbling onto his notebook when in class while paying attention to the lecture. His talent allows him to apply for a part-time job as a tattooist.
Dream(s) and Ambition(s):For now, Hui Yi has not yet seen himself far in the future. He doesn’t have a clear goal for what he wants to achieve in life in his mind at the moment. He intends to focus on the present, especially giving his attention and care to his grandmother. “I have someone to take care of.” is what he would answer to anyone who asks for his future plans.

Like(s):
  • Coffee: Being a coffee lover, Hui Yi wakes up everyday to find himself going to the kitchen to brew himself some coffee. Although, coffee doesn’t really affect him, he is mostly in for the authentic taste.

  • Little animals: Believe it or not, Hui Yi has a soft spot for little creatures such as puppies and kittens. He finds them stress-relieving and very cuddly. If a person’s lucky enough, they might be able to see Hui Yi watching some cute animal videos when he is bored, or simply to pass time in school. Even so, Hui Yi doesn’t have a pet of his own as he was used to living with his grandmother who is allergic to fur.

  • Sleeping in: Like most people, Hui Yi rather sleeps in than wake up early in the mornings for classes, hence, he usually goes to afternoon ones. He wasn’t fazed by the idea of being productive first thing in the morning and due to his lazy self, he is one that would resume laying in bed after getting himself a nice cup of brewed coffee.

  • Cheesecake: One of his favourite desserts is cheesecake. Although he doesn’t fancy sweet things, he has a liking for cheesecake. It may be because of the sweet and the little buttery taste of it that he finds delicious and satisfies his taste buds. If he decides to treat himself some sweet delights, a slice of cheesecake is a must for him to have.

  • Games: Hui Yi enjoys playing games at the arcade or going to carnivals, even though he may not seem like the type of person to. He does enjoy the leisurely fun every once in a while, as it too serves as a distraction for him from his normal school/work life.

  • Dark chocolate: Other than cheesecake, dark chocolate is the only type of chocolate he would eat. He enjoys the bitter taste of the chocolate melting onto his tongue. He isn’t much of a sweet tooth but he does tolerate these two desserts. (Cheesecake and dark chocolate)

Dislike(s):
  • Getting drunk: Nope. Hui Yi despises no, loathes, or anything, any verbs worse, the idea of getting drunk. It wasn’t the drinks that he dislikes, but the feeling of embarrassment after hungover at the things he did. Hui Yi is very lightweight and he would act like a completely different person when drunk (based on experience), hence he avoids it like the plague.

  • Sweets: Really, really sweet things. Hui Yi is not so sweet toothed, and has always been that way since he was a young kid. He doesn’t fancy the sweet taste on his tongue.

  • Punctuality: Don’t take it wrongly, Hui Yi is a very punctual person. What he disliked was people being present earlier than him. He rather wait for the other person than to be the one waited since he disliked the idea of being a burden to others.

  • Extremely spicy food: Hui Yi tolerates spicy food but whenever he is given something too spicy for his liking, he would pass.

Hobbies:
  • Photography: Hui Yi finds wonders in taking photographs with the camera he was gifted with by his grandmother. He was awed by how the camera was able to capture clear images and perceptions with one lens, just like how he was only able to rely on a singular eye most of the time living. During his free time, he would take a stroll through the neighbourhood park and casually snapping pictures of what he thinks catches his eye. He felt blissful whenever being outside, surrounded by luscious greenery while enjoying time alone, doing the things he is interested in.

  • Reading: Hui Yi also takes pleasure in reading, especially if the book is crime related. Hui Yi tends to spend afternoons on reading books if he hadn’t gotten anything to do on that day. He would also pull out a book on nights he couldn’t put himself to sleep, a form of distraction from having to think about things that aren’t there.

Health
Physical Health:Hui Yi is not the type who would be physically active by going to the gym, or any sort of place with training equipment. He rather does light jogs around his neighbourhood complex (that is if he isn’t lazy to wake up early in the morning).
Mental Health:Hui Yi encountered being unable to sleep most of the time, which was then confirmed that he was insomniac by the doctor. He was prescribed sleeping tablets if he found himself not being able to sleep for a long period of time.
Eyesight:Hui Yi suffers from heterochromia, an illness which causes one of his eyes to be coloured differently than the other. His lighter eye on the left side has developed a condition, chronic inflammation in the iris which causes it to go blind. (30% disability)
Hearing:10/10 (Normal)
Blood type:Blood type O
Posture:Hui YI’s posture is much taken care of due to his grandmother pestering him to have good posture everywhere he went.
Allergies:None

Appearance
Height:5'8" (172 cm)
Weight:140 lbs. (63 kg)
Build:Ectomorph
Voice:Chiaki Kobayashi
Skin tone:Light, pale ivory

Hair Colour:Ebony with slightly Ombré grey tips
Scar(s):None

Insecurities:
Hui Yi’s biggest insecurity about his body is his disabled eye. He didn’t like the idea of people finding out about the difference in his eye colour and the fact that he was unable to see with his left eye. He tends to cover his left eye by using contacts, or he may be seen with a pair of glasses or a cap.

General appearance:
Hui Yi’s closet consists of clothes that vary from different shades of black and white. He doesn’t like standing out in crowds, rather he likes it if he blends in. He prefers wearing minimalistically, such as a tucked-in black button up shirt with black jeans. His usual outfit must consist of either glasses, sunglasses or a cap to hide his eyes from being too obvious. He does like to change up the earrings he had, occasionally changing from short, hanging ones to studs. At work, he usually wears a balck turtleneck long-sleeved top with a pair of jeans.

Backstory

✎...Childhood
tw: bullying

Hui Yi, also known as Heatherr, an English name he was given by his parents, is a single child who grew up in Manchester, England. His mother, who was an immigrant from China had travelled to England where she met his father. Hui Yi was born with heterochromia, an illness which causes one eye colour to look different than the other. His mother would frequently remind him that he was special and he needn’t worry about the indifference he had compared to his other family members. His parents were overly hard working; his mother a nurse while his father, a real estate agent. They hardly had time to spend together, and hence, Hui Yi was then cared for by his grandmother. His grandmother had taught him moral principles since young and therefore, Hui Yi grew up to be a polite boy. Hui Yi was contented with his family and his childhood life, being able to be surrounded with his loved ones and also making new friends in kindergarten. He was enjoying the young days like a normal child would, that is until he was admitted to school.

It all started with the stares given by his classmates, examining closely at his eyes specifically. They would ask why his eyes were that way and questioned if he was only searching for attention. Now, Hui Yi was never exposed to children who were somewhat rebellious, hence he hadn’t had the courage to stand up for himself. He would usually be taken advantage of due to his condition, since he was labelled as “not normal”. His bullying became worse when the teachers had taken a liking to his diligence in school. Some of his classmates were displeased by the difference of treatment and continued their bullying, mostly verbally. He would sometimes be greeted with threats early in the morning through paper letters. Those words impacted the little boy which led to the disruption of mentality at a young age. He started to lose his attention in class, falling behind academically. It wasn’t long before his parents noticed the change in their only child, which proceeded to their decision to transfer him to homeschooling.

Although still a little traumatised, his parents continued to support him and encouraged him to stay strong. Overtime, his condition became better and his education was once more on track. Since he spent time more at home, his relationship with his grandmother had grown, forming a deeper connection with her. He regards her as his second parent, and would play with her after he was done with school. He became open to the older woman and talked about the childhood shows he watched or the subjects he learnt when in class. It became a daily chatter for the little boy and his grandmother so much that he had grown attached to her.

✎...Teenagehood
tw: thoughts about self-harm

Everything was going smoothly once more after he continued his studies through homeschooling and his parents frequently coming home then. Sadly, those times didn’t last very long. At the age of sixteen, Hui Yi had learnt the worst pain he had ever experienced. It was the period where he learnt of his mother’s illness, which was stage 4 cancer, that resulted in her being only to live until a certain time. Hui Yi was already devastated enough after the news that his left eye has worsened from the chronic inflammation. He hoped that everything was a dream, but sadly, it wasn’t the case. Hui Yi wasn’t able to handle the situation, growing mentally unstable to the point where he wanted to gouge his eye out due to his condition becoming way more unpleasant.

After his mother's death, Hui Yi lived alone with his father and grandmother. The day of his mother’s death ceremony, everyone gathered to pray for their condolences to the family. Hui Yi knew he had to look strong for his grandmother but he still wasn’t able to accept the reality of things himself. It was a depressing time for him which he knew he had to move on with, especially since he knew the other members of his family were experiencing the same sorrow as him. Or so he thought until he heard of his father’s date a few months after. Even though being supportive was what he was supposed to do as his father’s child, he didn’t accept that he was moving on too fast. Nonetheless, he didn’t interfere with his father’s relationship.

As the weeks passed by, Hui Yi had to undergo surgery for his left eye. Although it was successful, he wasn’t able to see through his left eye as clearly as before. It was bothersome in the beginning, but had grown used to it over time. The most support he was given was from his grandmother, who stood by his bed the whole time he was admitted in the hospital whereas his father came in and out due to work. He didn’t expect much from them as being in their presence alone was enough. He knew that eventually he would only have one working eye left and just having the thought of it was enough to make him feel a little more scattered than before.

✎...Adulthood

As he grew into adulthood, Hui Yi has learnt to overcome the negative feelings he experienced. He grew to accept his insecurities, even though he had to change a little of how he presents himself. Hui Yi was able to catch up with his studies after the mournful period, gaining himself the credibility to continue his education. Choosing Arts as his career path, Hui Yi was able to get himself a spot in a university abroad. He was a little relentless about the idea of leaving his grandmother behind but with much persuasion from her, he finally decided to study abroad. His father had helped him with the costs of his university and was able to support his child from afar. Hui Yi was against relying his father and yet again, the sweet talk from his grandmother was enough for him to give in to his father’s help.

After settling in the new environment for a year, Hui Yi is able to find himself comfortable with his surroundings. His current residence is the dorms provided by the university, although he did make plans to move out once he was much more stable with his income. His father insisted on providing one for him but Hui Yi rejected his help. He didn’t want to rely entirely on his father and would like to be independent for once. He had found himself a fixed part-time job at a tattoo shop nearby his university to support him financially. His shifts mostly included him attending to customers who had made reservations that day. Due to his education, he was able to produce impressive results that had his customers satisfied.

Throughout his time there, he had made the least friends since he is rather on the antisocial side. He doesn’t talk much, nor make visible, bright expressions which make it hard for people to approach him. He didn’t mind it, though. In fact, he was glad he didn’t have to interact with too many people. He was still a little insecure of his disability and making acquaintances would cause him to overthink their judgement towards him, which he would rather avoid. He goes about his day like normal, following his routine which consists of morning nap, studying, work, and all over again.
